Note: This particular cross comes from a German estate. It was common that German soldiers received Romanian awards both during WW1 and WW2.

History:
The Romanian Medal for Manhood and Loyalty; 3nd Class; 1916-1947 Issue. The medal was instituted in 1903 for police, as well as civilians, for preserving or restoring public order. In 1916, the award became a war decoration for bravery in the face of the enemy and crossed swords were added to the suspension. Again on 30 June 1941, this medal was reinstalled for awarding for war services as the lowest ranking war decoration. It then carried crossed swords which had previously (in 1937) been discontinued.
