WW1 Austrian Ersatz ammo pouch in metal
These are very hard to find and only used during the end of WW1. When raw material became hard to find both the Austrian and German army needed substitutes.
You can see for example simplified bayonets and like in this case an ammo pouch made of steel instead of leather.
These simplified items are referred to as Ersatz(replacement).
This particular ammo pouch is made of thin magnetic steel. Condition is excellent with a near complete combat green paint and a still soft and working leather tab.
This ammo pouch was used for ammo for the Steyr Mannlicher M95 bolt action rifle.
Maker marked on the back of the belt holder.
