Swedish m/1896 bayonet
These bayonets often have a lot of markings, so we may have missed something.
It have the scabbard locking mechanism for bayonet fighting to hold the bayonet on place and with the scabbard on the recruits fought with bayonets and to avoid accidents this is attached. This part is seldom seen.
Blade is marked '230' 'EJ AB' with a 'crown' on the opposite side.
Handle is marked under the crossguard with 'EJ AB' and 'crown'.
Scabbard is marked 'E&B 230' on the top muzzle, '496' on the ball.
Finally the unit marking(pictured), I 12 (Jönköping Infantry Regiment), Company 45b, Weapon #230.
Bayonet is in excellent ++ to near mint condition. No issues what so ever.
Very nice frog. Marked on the back but hard to read. Possibly A.L - A.8 - 1922
A matching bayonet in top condition!
FACT:
Knife bayonet for use on the 6.5 mm. m/1896 Swedish Mauser rifle. The m/1896 bayonet was also used with the m/1938 Short Rifle and AG42b Ljungmann self-loading rifle.
