Finnish Winter war medal 'LAATOKAN KARJALA'.
Excellent condition. Magnetic, blackened metal.
Front shows a Finnish solider, dressed in winter camouflage, firing his rifle, on the left and right side are emblems for Finlands different regions, at the bottom 1939/1940 and at the top a crown with two arms holding sword. Reverse says "Kunnia Isänmaa" (For the fatherland).
The swords indicate that the receiver was an active soldier.
Complete with a campaign bar "LAATOKAN KARJALA" (Eng: Ladoga Karelia). Famous for the Motti Battles of Ladoga Karelia (Laatokan Karjalan mottitaistelut), where Finnish forces (IV Army Corps) encircled and isolated invading Soviet forces in harsh winter conditions north of Lake Ladoga (including the famous Kitilä suurmotti and Lemetti).
