WWII Swedish Volunteer Corps Bronze Plaque (Svenska Frivilligkåren 1939–1940)
A remarkable piece of Nordic World War II history: an original commemorative cast bronze plaque issued for support work toward the Swedish Volunteer Corps (Svenska Frivilligkåren) during the Finnish Winter War of 1939–1940.
Front show a high-relief depiction of the Finnish crowned lion brandishing a straight sword and standing upon a curved sabre.
Text on the front says "FÖR NORDENS FRIHET OCH SVERIGES ÄRA" (For the Freedom of the North and the Honor of Sweden).
Designer/Sculptor markings along the bottom rim: "S. SKÖLD DEL." (Sven Sköld, Designer) and "W. BRUNO SCULP." (W. Bruno, Sculptor).
Text on the back says "ARBETE FÖR SVENSKA FRIVILLIGKÅREN 1939–1940" (Work for the Swedish Volunteer Corps 1939–1940).
Maker's mark at the bottom edge: "WESTINS ATELJE STOCKHOLM".
