HISTORY:
German Jäger Divisions were first formed in December 1940, by reorganizing Infantry Divisions into light, pursuit divisions. The Jäger Divisions were organized and equipped similar to that of the Mountain Divisions but without the specialized mountaineering equipment. On October 2ND 1942 distinctive sleeve insignia was introduced for all Jäger personnel to be worn on the upper right sleeve of the greatcoat, service and uniform tunics and the field blouse. Generally EM/NCO personnel utilized machine embroidered or woven sleeve insignia while officers ranks wore higher quality, hand embroidered insignia. Of Note: Distinct cap insignia was also introduced for Jäger personnel at the same time as the sleeve insignia. Regulations dictated that both the Jäger’s sleeve and cap insignia were to be removed if the individual was transferred out of a Jäger unit.
