HISTORY:

The history of Bavarian veterans' associations goes back to 1786, when the first veterans' association was founded in Aying. In the years after 1805, reservists founded further associations. The veterans' associations grew further after the Wars of Liberation in 1815, when mostly former soldiers from certain regiments joined forces. As in the rest of Germany, the great upswing began after the Franco-Prussian War in 1870/71. In 1873, the "German Veterans' Association" was founded in the Prussian and annexed territories. At the same time, the "Bavarian Veterans' Association" was founded in Bavaria, which became the "Bavarian Veterans and Veterans' Association" just one year later. In 1877, the association was replaced by the "Bavarian Veterans, Veterans and Combat Comrades' Association" (BVKKB). Around 1900, the association had 2,250 regional clubs with around 150,000 members. In 1908, it was renamed the "Bavarian Veterans and War Veterans Association". The Federal Medal of Honor presented here was awarded to deserving members by the Bavarian War Veterans Association after 1918.
