Luftwaffe cable ID tag 'Flugmeldedienst'
This is red, round, version for Flak units.
Diameter 40 mm.
Excellent conditon.
Although not the most exciting object it was surely one of the most important thing that needed to work - communication!!.
Air force field and field long-distance cables were marked with colored cable marks at the beginning of the line, depending on the wiring. For overhead lines, marking was done on every fifth pole, with binding wire on the insulator supports. The telephone teams were each equipped with 20 tokens, with the exception of the white markers for referees (neutral lines) The round line marks have a diameter of 40 mm and are made from 1 mm thick iron sheet, the square marks have the dimensions 40 x 40 mm and are also made from 1 mm thick iron sheet. Production of the management brands was stopped in the fall of 1944 due to a lack of raw materials. Use of line marks: Around: Red = lines for the flak Yellow = cables for flying units Golden brown = cables for the air intelligence force Square: Red = lines for “Göring Regiment” White = lines for referees during exercises (neutral lines) Golden brown = cables for the flight reporting service.
Seems these were tokens attached to communication lines in order to help identify such lines.
