Finnish WW2 Winter War medal 1939-40 for Foreigners with Kenttäarmeija clasp and swords
These differs from the standard medal and is larger and have different text on the back.
Probably awarded to a Swedish soldier(found here in Sweden).
Excellent condition.
Magnetic, blackened metal.
Front shows a Finnish solider firing his rifle, region emblems, 1939/1940 and at the bottom a cross with traditional arm emblems. Reverse says "Summo in Periculo Fautoribus Adiutoribus Finlandia Memor" (Commemorating the defenders and helpers of Finland in her greatest danger).
With the Kenttäarmeija clasp and crossed swords.
Rare medal in a great condition!
This exact arrangement was issued to foreign volunteers (for example, members of the Svenska Frivilligkåren from Sweden, or volunteers from Norway, Denmark, the UK, etc.) who served directly in active Field Army combat formations during the 1939–1940 conflict.
Kenttäarmeija translates directly from Finnish as "Field Army". When seen on a ribbon clasp (solki) of the Finnish Winter War Commemorative Medal (Talvisodan muistomitali, 1939–1940), it represents a general branch/support classification rather than a specific regional front line
