Finnish WW2 Winter War Commemorative Bronze Plaque
Designed in 1940 by renowned Finnish master designer Tapio Wirkkala, this solid cast bronze relief plaque commemorates Finland’s defense during the Winter War (Talvisota, 1939–1940). Original sales of this plaque raised vital funds for wounded Finnish war veterans.
The front depicts a striking high-relief portrait of the Finnish coat of arms lion—crowned, snarling, and brandishing a raised sword—flanked by the years 1939 and 1940. Cast in heavy bronze with a rich dark patina, the reverse features a hollowed back and the original integrated suspension loop ready for wall hanging.
