The Reichsluftschutz Badge for Air Raid Warning Service, 2nd Pattern represents a significant artifact of the civil air defense organization of the German Reich during the National Socialist period. This particular badge was awarded to members of the Flugmeldedienst (Air Raid Warning Service), an important component of the civil air defense system established in the 1930s.

The Air Raid Warning Service formed a central pillar of the air defense system. Its task consisted of detecting enemy aircraft movements early, reporting them, and transmitting corresponding warnings to the population and military authorities. The air raid wardens were organized in a network of observation posts that covered the entire Reich territory. These volunteers made an important contribution to air defense by monitoring airspace using optical and acoustic means.
