German WW2 Kriegsmarine Clerical Gefreiters combined career & rank Insignia

A combined insignia displaying both the career and rank emblem.

A rather hard to find insignia.

The insignia consists of a navy blue wool base with an inverted triangular bottom and a semi-circular top.

The top of the base has machine embroidered, crossed writing quills, (feathers), in golden yellow cotton threads positioned above a single rank chevron.

The rank chevron is machine stitched to the wool base.

The reverse of the insignia has a protective grey oilcloth backing.

Near mint condition.

HISTORY:

In the context of the Kriegsmarine, a Schreiber was an enlisted or non-commissioned officer assigned to administrative, clerical, and record-keeping duties rather than combat seamanship.

Duties of a Schreiber:

Handling official service records, personnel rosters, and pay logs.

Typing out official military correspondence, orders, and reports.

Managing quartermaster, supply, and administrative paperwork at headquarters, shore installations, or aboard larger naval vessels.
