German - Jagdgeschwader “Horst Wessel” Plakette.
A hard to find plaque!
Constructed of gold washed bronze, the obverse bearing a raised German national eagle clutching a Sturmabteilung (SA) insignia, circumscribed by an inscription of “JAGDGESCHWADER HORST WESSEL”, the reverse bearing a central raised inscription of “TREUE UM TREUE” (“LOYALTY BEGETS LOYALTY”), situated within a circular oak leaf wreath,
Maker marked “DESCHLER U. SOHN”
Measuring 80 mm in diameter.
Very heavy, roughly 155 gram.
This and several other variants are all produced by the company Deschler. Many years ago our picker friend in Germany got a call from someone clearing out the old Deschler warehouse. These are all unissued and in many cases rare prototypes, for example for events that never took place. We were lucky to be able and buy the last of them. Please note that these are not from the so called Deschler hoarde find, there mainly awards like the war merit cross were found. No plaques like this.
