Westwall medal / Deutsches Schutzwall Ehrenzeichen.
A very hard to find Westwall medal.
You will have a very hard time even finding a marked one.
This one is marked L15 for Friedrich Orth (Not to be confused with those marked L/15 which for the company Otto Schickle).
This L15 marking backs up the discovery and conclusion that the Friedrich Orth firm screwed up it’s understanding of how they were supposed to implement their new “L/14” LDO designation with their existing PKZ 15 number. For some reason, they just tossed a “L” in front of their existing 15 and called it a day. They may have made these ASSUMING their LDO number would be the same as their PKZ number and then … Scheissen! Too late to fix…bag em up and send em out! So, even though marked L15, this is not a Otto Schickle made award. More info can be had on this in Maerz & Stimson’s War Merit 1st Class book.
Mid to late war production.
Excellent condition.
