History:
Established June 17, 1936, this medal was authorized for all members of the Legion Condor regardless of rank. General Franco personally designed the medal and instituted the award to commemorate the victory over the communist loyalists. The actual date of the institution is probably 1938. The ribbon bears the black, red, and yellow colors of Spain. The medal depicts the lion victorious overt the griffon--the Falangist victory over the loyalist thugs. The other side has the Falangist arrow yoke and the eagle with the royal Spanish coat of arms.
